Monday’s vehicle bombing in Manbij, in northern Syria, killed at least 15 people. It was the country’s second strike in three days and the bloodiest since Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in December.
In Manbij, which is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Turkish border, there were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attack. According to the civil defense rescue agency, 15 women were injured and 14 women and one man were confirmed dead.
The car bombing was denounced by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who blamed Turkey-backed groups for using violence and explosions like this to scare locals.
A civil defense officer told Reuters that the death toll was expected to rise and that the dead were farm workers.
