According to the military’s media wing, 16 Pakistan Army personnel were killed on Saturday while preventing militants from attacking a security checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) South Waziristan province.
According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a group of terrorists attempted to attack a security forces checkpoint in the tribal district’s general area of Makeen on the night between December 20 and 21.
It said that troops successfully stopped the attempt and that “eight khwarij [terrorists] were sent to hell” during the ensuing gunfight. “However, during intense fire exchange, sixteen brave sons of soil, having fought gallantly embraced shahadat.”
According to the ISPR, a sanitization effort has been started in the region, and those responsible for the horrible act will face consequences.
