After the annual number of poliovirus infections reached 63, a week-long statewide anti-polio campaign officially began today (Monday) with the goal of vaccinating around 44,000,000 children nationwide against the debilitating disease.
By giving drops to youngsters in Islamabad on Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proclaimed the start of the anti-polio campaign.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he reaffirmed his commitment to working with provincial governments and international partners to eradicate the poliovirus from Pakistan.
According to Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq, around 400,000 polio workers from 143 districts will visit every home to give polio drops to children under five.
