Are you trying to find something? Millions of people worldwide now turn to Wikipedia for information on anything from Indian cricket to US politics.
The nonprofit organization that runs the website, the Wikimedia Foundation, published its yearly list of the most popular Wikipedia articles on Tuesday, highlighting the topics that users were interested in reading about this year.
Like Oxford’s word of the year, the crowdsourced encyclopedia provides a glimpse of what subjects catch people’s attention, become worldwide trends, or characterize a particular year. According to the Wikimedia Foundation, as of October, English-language Wikipedia had been visited more than 76 billion times worldwide this year.
“Our world is reflected in the most popular Wikipedia articles, which highlight our shared interests at a special moment in time.”
