LONDON: Just behind the record-breaking temperatures set in recent months, the UK meteorological service said Thursday that 2025 would probably rank among the top three warmest years in the world.
The average worldwide temperature in 2025 is expected to be 1.29 to 1.53°C higher than pre-industrial levels (1850–1900), which is marginally lower than in 2024 and 2023, according to the Meteorological Office’s prediction.
In line with findings this week from Europe’s climate monitor Copernicus, the Met also predicted that 2024 will be the warmest year on record.
The findings are released at the end of a year that saw climate disasters in both rich and poor nations, which experts attribute to human activity that is causing the Earth to warm quickly.
