Following three stabbings at the event in west London on Sunday, the Metropolitan Police announced that officers “used their search powers to take weapons off the streets and prevent additional serious violence”.
Three firearms were also found by the force on Monday; two were found at the carnival itself, and the third was found during a traffic stop in Harrow involving individuals who were presumably on their way to the event.
This weekend’s two-day celebration of Caribbean culture, which its organizers dubbed “the greatest community-led event on the planet,” was projected to draw in almost a million attendees.
The policing operation’s deputy assistant commissioner, Ade Adelekan, made a call on Monday morning for anyone with information that could help stop more bloodshed to come forward.
The “vast majority” of attendees, he claimed, come to enjoy themselves, but Sunday was “marred by unacceptable violence”.
The Met provided an update on Monday night, stating that there had been five stabbings that day as of 22:50 p.m. Two of the victims were critically ill, according to the force.
