Pakistan receives about 255mm of rain every month during the monsoon season, which lasts from July to August. Data from the government and foreign assistance organizations show that in 2022, the monsoon rains severely affected the whole nation, with approximately 75,000 dwellings demolished and 130,000 partially damaged in KP alone.
According to a KP PDMA study that was made public today, an abundance of rainfall caused rivers to overflow, flood basins to become saturated, and the natural drainage systems to be overburdened, all of which directly contributed to extensive flooding.
As a result, roof collapses and other rain-related disasters claimed the lives of 24 persons around the province in the last three days. The highest number of casualties—ten—six of them were children—were recorded in Kohat. The report stated that “the district administration along with Rescue 1122 and local volunteers recovered the dead bodies.” It also stated that non-food items (NFIs), such as kitchen sets, tents, mattresses, blankets, and hygiene kits, were given to the afflicted families.
However, Upper Chitral saw the most damage to infrastructure, with 107 homes either completely or partially damaged by flash floods brought on by heavy rain.
