It was 1992. Sushma* said that at the age of 18, she was brought to an abandoned warehouse by a man she knew when she was supposed to be watching videotapes. There, she was raped, tied up, and photographed by six or seven men.
The guys were from well-to-do, powerful families in Ajmer, which is located in the Rajasthan state in western India.
“One of them gave me 200 rupees [$2; £1] to purchase lipstick after they had raped me. She answered, “I didn’t take the money.”
32 years later, Sushma witnessed her assailants’ conviction and life sentence last week.
“At 50 years old, I feel like I’ve finally received justice,” the woman remarked. “But it cannot bring back all that I have lost.”
She claimed that as a result of what had happened to her, she had suffered years of social ridicule and teasing and that both of her marriages had ended in divorce once the husbands found out about her background.
