Malcolm Alker, a former captain of Salford, passed away at the age of 45.
Hooker Alker played for the team his whole career, accumulating 292 appearances. At the age of 21, he was chosen captain for the first time in 2000.
He was an assistant coach for a while, scored seventy-five tries for Salford, and was awarded two caps for England at the 2005 international tournament.
A Salford statement said:, external “All our thoughts are with Malcolm’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Alker’s 16-year relationship with Salford came to an end in 2010 when he retired due to injuries.
He was sentenced to four years in jail for armed robbery in 2018.
