78 additional suspects who were detained during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) “do-or-die” rally at D-Chowk last month have been released by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad.
Before ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra on Monday, representatives from four police stations in the federal capital presented a total of 283 suspects; in contrast, inmates were represented in court by counsel Ansar Kiana.
31 suspected protestors were brought by Sihala police after a two-day physical remand ended, and they requested an extension. The ATC, however, turned down the plea and placed the suspects under judicial remand.
94 suspects were presented to the court by Aabpara police, who requested their physical remand. The ATC judge released four other defendants and placed the 90 accused under police custody on a two-day physical remand.
