KARACHI: As the nation struggles with escalating unrest in the wake of the rebels’ rapid offensive that led to President Bashar-al Assad’s overthrow, over 250 Pakistani pilgrims have been left stranded in Syria.
According to Cham Wings’ Country Head Tariq Samiullah, the rebels have shut down the airport, hence stopping all outbound flights.
He announced that another flight that was supposed to depart for Karachi on December 11 had also been canceled. “Our flight scheduled for Lahore today has been cancelled,” he stated.
There were no clear updates given, so pilgrims expressed uncertainty about Cham Wings’ flying itinerary for the day. In the meantime, the situation in Damascus is still tight, with gunfire in the Sayyidah Zaynab neighborhood causing widespread dread and anxiety among residents nearby.
