Pakistan’s slow over-rate against South Africa in the second Test in Cape Town has cost them five ICC World Test Championship points and a quarter of their match fee.
After time allowances were taken into account, Pakistan was determined to be five overs short of the objective, and Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees assessed the sentence.
The top cricketing body said in a statement that players are penalized 5% of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl in the allocated time, in violation of Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses.
