ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been ordered to cease its contentious proposal to purchase 1,010 automobiles, which is anticipated to cost more than Rs6 billion, by the Senate Finance Committee, which is chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla.
Committee members described the acquisition as “shady” and “a way to corruption” in response to the revenue body’s decision.
When the committee met to review the FBR’s decision to buy cars for its field officers, the matter was brought up.
The chair of the committee asked why such a large purchase was necessary. Why is the FBR buying more than a thousand cars? “Have field officers ever used bicycles to collect taxes?” Mandviwalla inquired.
