President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed on X that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky will be visiting South Africa as part of a state visit, but he did not specify the date.
The invitation follows a week in which Kyiv was left out of US-Russian negotiations on ending the three-year conflict in Ukraine.
Zelensky and Ramaphosa “agreed on the urgent need for an inclusive peace process” over the phone, the South African president said in a statement. “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine” was Zelensky’s way of echoing this notion.
South Africa has attempted to help put an end to the violence, despite accusations that it has a deeper ties with Moscow.
