The recently ratified 26th Constitutional Amendment was crafted following a “compromise” with other political factions, according to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
In an interview with Oxford Union President Israr Khan, the PPP MP stated, “Perhaps it’s not exactly as I would have drafted,” but that his party made a “positive contribution” to the controversial legislation by negotiating with the opposition “despite having the votes.”
He discussed the 26th Amendment, the coalition government’s Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Peca) (Amendment) Bill 2025, legislative action in the parliament, and the state of democracy in Pakistan during the interview.
