This week, the EU’s top team will travel to India for an “unprecedented” visit as part of the bloc’s efforts to strengthen its diplomatic and business relationships in order to protect itself from deteriorating ties with the US.
Beginning Thursday, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen and her college of commissioners will go to New Delhi for a two-day visit to negotiate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his administration.
The journey is the most recent indication of Brussels’ efforts to broaden its relationships outside of the US and establish itself as a trustworthy commercial partner.
“In this era of intense geostrategic competition, Europe stands for openness, partnership, and outreach.”
