In the most recent development in the high-stakes court battle, a US judge on Tuesday rejected billionaire Elon Musk’s plea for a preliminary injunction to halt OpenAI’s shift to a for-profit business model but consented to a fast-track trial in the fall of this year.
According to US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland, California, Musk lacks “the high burden required for a preliminary injunction” to stop OpenAI’s conversion.
However, considering “the public interest at stake and potential for harm if a conversion contrary to law occurred,” Rogers stated in the decision that she wished to settle the case as soon as possible.
