Concerns regarding the delay in approving a mutual legal assistance agreement with Kenya in the murder case of journalist Arshad Sharif were voiced by the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench on Friday.
In October 2022, Arshad was shot dead by Kenyan police in a “mistaken identity” case. After several treason proceedings were brought against him in various places, the journalist fled his native country in August 2022.
Today’s suo motu hearing on the case was presided over by Justice Aminuddin Khan and comprised of six members.
The constitutional bench of the highest court demanded a daily progress report from the government’s handling of the Sharif murder case, expressing dissatisfaction with the additional attorney general (AAG).
