Devon artists express fear that government plans to amend copyright laws may facilitate free use of their creations by artificial intelligence (AI) firms.
Unless the owners of the rights choose to “opt out,” the government’s proposed legal reforms would permit AI developers to access online content from authors to aid in the development of their models.
Devon illustrator Sarah McIntyre described the proposals as “disastrous” for her, while the Devon Artist Network expressed its “extreme concern” about them.
The Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT) has concluded its consultation on the plans, and according to a spokesman, no decisions have been made as of yet.
