JEDDAH: A day before negotiations between Ukrainian and US officials that Washington anticipates would yield significant progress toward resolving the war with Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Once the primary ally of Ukraine, the United States has reversed its wartime policy in its purported desire for an immediate conclusion to the conflict, interacting directly with Moscow while ceasing to provide Kyiv with military support and information sharing.
Following a disastrous Oval Office meeting between Zelenskiy and US President Donald Trump last month that turned into acrimony, Ukraine has pushed for “pragmatic” relations in response to the new strategy in the White House.
Zelenskiy is scheduled to meet with the Saudi crown prince later on Monday.
