Pakistan has warned the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is becoming an umbrella organization for regional terror groups as the nation struggles with the surge in terror strikes in recent months.
During a UNSC meeting on Tuesday regarding the situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram emphasized the warning, emphasizing that the more than 20 terrorist organizations operating in the neighboring country posed the biggest threat to regional security and stability.
Envoy Akram’s comments are in light of Pakistan’s continuous efforts to combat terrorism, as the nation has become the second-most dangerous in the world according to a Global Terrorism Index 2025 assessment.
