In a case that has stirred emotions in the South American nation where the World Cup winner is still held in high regard, Argentina started the long-awaited trial of the medical team for football legend Diego Maradona on Tuesday. Maradona passed away in 2020.
The accused and family members showed up at the court outside of Buenos Aires, the country’s capital. A psychiatrist, brain surgeon, and Maradona’s caregivers are among those charged with homicide by negligence.
“Justice for D10S,” a moniker derived from Maradona’s shirt number and the Spanish word for God, was displayed by supporters outside the San Isidro appeals court.
Maradona is regarded as one of the best football players of all time.
