In an effort to persuade his counterpart to agree to a truce in Russia’s war with Ukraine and take steps toward a more permanent resolution to the three-year conflict, US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
Trump’s praised ability to make deals and his valued friendship with the Russian leader, which has made traditional US allies cautious, will be put to the test during the high-stakes call.
Trump stated in a social media post on Monday that “many elements of a final agreement have been agreed to, but much remains.”
“2,500 soldiers are killed every week on both sides, and this has to stop immediately. I am eagerly awaiting the call with President Putin.
