KHYBER: Following fruitful talks between the two nations’ authorities, the Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan is scheduled to reopen for trade today (Wednesday) after being closed for 25 days.
Tensions increased as Afghan soldiers started building within Pakistani territory, leading to the closure of the border crossing on February 21.
Afghan officials have agreed to dismantle the contentious building that caused tensions between the two parties, according to Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, head of the Pakistani tribal jirga.
According to him, a truce will be maintained until the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting, guaranteeing regional calm. Kazmi stated that the Afghan authorities’ move has been praised by Pakistani security officials.
