The retail price of sugar will stay at Rs164 per kg, but its ex-mills price will be limited to less than Rs159 per kg, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who remarked on Wednesday that the selling of sugar at a price of Rs178–180 per kg was unacceptable.
In a live broadcast on national television, he announced the major choices after chairing a meeting to evaluate sugar prices. He also stated that a subcommittee was being formed to provide recommendations within a month to address the ongoing problem.
According to the top official, the committee that was established to investigate the sugar problem at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s request had already met multiple times during the holy month of Ramadan.
