ISTANBUL: After discussions between Russia and Ukraine, where a Ukrainian official said that Moscow’s negotiators made fresh demands before a ceasefire could be agreed upon, US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he would meet with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine on Monday.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Russian news media in Moscow that talks between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were being prepared.
Friday’s negotiations in Turkey marked the first time the parties had met in person since March 2022, only weeks after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its smaller neighbor.
Russian negotiators asked that Ukraine withdraw its soldiers from all Ukrainian regions claimed by Moscow before they would agree to a ceasefire, according to a senior Ukrainian official familiar with the negotiations.
