NEW DELHI: On Thursday, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) bestowed a $6.72 million cash bonus to its squad, which won the Champions Trophy earlier this month. This sum is three times the 50-overs tournament winner’s payout.
After winning the Twenty20 World Cup last year, Rohit Sharma and his team defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the March 9 final in Dubai to capture their second consecutive worldwide championship. The Champions Trophy victory earned the club $2.24 million.
In recognition of their most recent triumph in an International Cricket Council (ICC) competition, the BCCI, the wealthiest cricket body in the world, announced an extra 580 million rupees for the players, support personnel, and selection committee members.
