At the Chinese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton declared himself “gobsmacked” after securing his maiden Ferrari sprint race pole position.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull was outqualified by Hamilton, while Lando Norris of McLaren finished sixth and Charles Leclerc, his Ferrari teammate, finished fourth.
“I’m a little surprised by it,” the seven-time champion, who qualified eighth and finished ninth in his Ferrari debut in Australia last weekend, remarked.
It was a challenging start to the week after last weekend, and I wasn’t sure when we would reach this point. I came here determined to get the car into a nice place and head into the weekend.
