At a conference in Greece, Kirsty Coventry was chosen the 10th president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), making her the first woman to hold the most influential position in sports.
The 41-year-old Zimbabwean sports minister and two-time Olympic swimmer is the youngest person to hold the role and the first African. However, her win is both historic and contentious.

Coventry won 49 votes out of a possible 97, securing an overall majority of the secret ballot after just one round, despite forecasts of a close contest amongst the seven candidates and the anticipation of several rounds of voting.
