UNITED NATIONS: In an effort to settle the long-running Kashmir issue, Pakistan urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday to carry out its own resolutions guaranteeing the Kashmiri people the right to self-determination through a referendum overseen by the UN.
“It is the responsibility of this Council to ensure the realisation of that right for the Kashmiri people, and promote a just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, by taking measures to implement its own resolutions,” Tariq Fatemi, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs,
During a high-level Council discussion on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Advancing Adaptability in UN Peace Operations — Responding to New Realities,” he made these statements.
