LAHORE: In a significant move to protect residents’ fundamental rights, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif declared that all costs associated with birth and death registrations would be eliminated throughout the state.
According to a statement from the province chief executive, “identity is a fundamental right of every citizen, and we want to create convenience for the people.”
She also gave the relevant authorities instructions to guarantee that the Birth & Death Registration Rules 2025 are immediately enforced.
Citizens can now record births and deaths at Union Councils and Municipal Committees for free for a maximum of seven years under the new policy. The need for a court order to register a late application has also been removed.
