After Austin Robert Drummond was spotted near Jackson, local officials implemented an early morning shelter-in-place for area residents, bringing an end to the weeklong manhunt for him. While police looked for him, residents were advised to secure their windows and doors.
Drummond, 28, is accused by police of killing the baby’s parents, grandmother, and teenage uncle before leaving the child outside the home of a stranger.
The arrest “marks an important step in restoring safety to our community,” according to Thom Corley, the chief of police in Jackson.
The parents were sought after after the baby, left in a car seat, was discovered on July 29 in front of a stranger’s house in Tigrett, Tennessee.
The four family members were later discovered dead in Tiptonville, some 40 miles (64 km) distant.
