Lt Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has categorically denied rumors that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has any aspirations to become president of the nation.
The chief military spokeswoman called such reports of the army chief becoming president “nonsense” in an interview with the British publication The Economist.
This reaffirmation follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s July vehement denial of any intention by COAS to take over as president or that President Asif Ali Zardari may be asked to resign.
The premier promised that there was no reality to the reports that were making the rounds in some parts of the media, calling them “mere speculation.”
