The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has been requested by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah to postpone their planned statewide demonstration, arguing that such events should bring the country together rather than turn into a day of political conflict.
According to the PM’s adviser, “Independence Day should be a time for the entire nation to celebrate together, not a day of political confrontation,” according to Shahzad Iqbal of Geo News’ Naya Pakistan program.
His comments followed on August 6 tweet on PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan’s X account urging followers to “take to the streets in full force” in opposition to what the party saw as persistent oppression.
The call came after PTI’s August 5 protest effort failed.
