As the province prepares for the seventh round of monsoon rains starting on August 13, Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a flood advisory on Monday.
A fresh monsoon spell is predicted to raise the water levels of major rivers, such as the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum, as well as their nearby streams and tributaries, according to the PDMA’s advisory.
Because of the anticipated high rainfall, the PDMA issued a warning about flooding in low-lying and riverine areas.
The advise stated that all relevant departments, including commissioners and deputy commissioners, have been directed to maintain a high level of alertness.
Irfan Ali Kathia, the Punjab PDMA, has ordered local officials to make sure that people and animals are evacuated from riverbanks.
