The US State Department declared on Monday that the BLA and its militant branch, the Majeed Brigade, have been officially classified as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) by the US.
The BLA’s prior designation as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) group is now joined by the Majeed Brigade as an alias.
Since being officially recognized as an SDGT in 2019, the BLA has taken credit for a number of acts, including suicide bombs executed by the Majeed Brigade.
The organization claimed responsibility for suicide assaults against the Gwadar Port Authority Complex and Karachi airport in 2024.
The March hijacking of the Jaffar Express train, which ran from Quetta to Peshawar, was attributed to the BLA earlier this year.
