Ed Sheeran does not appeal to Rod Stewart. He actually claims not to “know any of his songs.”
The 79-year-old British rock singer talked candidly about whether or not today’s musicians are creating music that will be as timeless as his in a recent interview with The Times.
When asked if he thought artists were still creating timeless music, Stewart gave his opinion. “I’m sure they are,” he answered, then mentioned his own song from 1971. “You mean like ‘Maggie May’?” he asked. mu. “No, not Ed; old ginger bollocks; I’ve never heard any of his tunes. Jesus,” in response, Stewart said.
The site identified the song “Shotgun” by George Ezra that Rod started singing, “I’ll be riding shotgun.”
Indeed! “I think George writes really fantastic songs,” Rod remarked about George. “He’ll be around for quite a while.”
Sheeran was engaged in a legal dispute in 2014 over allegations that he had plagiarized Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” for his song “Thinking Out Loud.” In May, a jury ruled that he didn’t copy Gaye’s classic hit.
Shortly after his victory, Ed made a statement and left the New York courthouse.
