Sarfaraz Bugti of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been elected chief minister of Balochistan for the first time, but he faces a slew of obstacles because the province is plagued by terrorism and has the least development.
Bugti is an ambitious individual who was born in 1981 to tribal elder Mir Ghulam Qadir Masori Bugti. His father, too, had an aptitude for determining which way the political winds were blowing. This is why, after serving in General Zia’s Majlis-e-Shoora, he joined the PPP, a completely opposed force.
Ghulam then remained loyal to the PPP even during General Musharraf’s tyranny, which put him under external pressure. Nonetheless, the family remained faithful to the PPP, and Ghulam continued to work under its banner until his demise.
