There will be severe service reductions as a result of the Aslef members’ walkout, particularly in East Anglia and the South East.
Aslef is involved in a salary dispute that has lasted almost two years, with no indication of a resolution and no scheduled discussions.
The strike will affect the following trains: C2C, Gatwick Express, Greater Anglia, Southeastern, Southern, South Western Railway, Great Northern, and Thameslink.
According to the union, the industry has lost almost £2 billion as a result of the dispute—much more than would have been required to settle it.
In an additional effort to disrupt services, Aslef members at sixteen train companies have also decided to forbid overtime on Monday and Tuesday.
The train stations of the striking operators will have picket lines erected outside.
Mick Whelan, general secretary of Aslef, stated that his organization’s members continued to firmly support the industrial action and chastised the government and train corporations for their lack of communication during the previous year.
