The Blues’ 2-1 victory over Brighton on Wednesday saw them rise to sixth place in the Premier League.
Despite a challenging season, a point against Bournemouth at home in Sunday’s last game will ensure their place in Europe the next year.
“It’s a big thing for us to be in control of finishing in sixth place,” stated Palmer, who opened the scoring against the Seagulls with his 22nd goal of the year.
“Chelsea are a big club, and everyone wants to finish higher than sixth, but you have to look at where we were at the start of the season.”
Up to April 3, Mauricio Pochettino’s team was in 12th place in the standings, having bounced back from a dismal start to the season.
Palmer, 22, continued, saying that returning to Europe would be a positive move.
