I felt like a burden because of my injuries – Archer.

England bowler Jofra Archer admits that amid his protracted injury issues over the past four years, he has at times "felt like a burden".

Bowling the game-winning over in England’s World Cup victory and making an impressive showing in the Ashes later that summer, Archer had an incredible start to his international career in 2019.

Due to elbow and back problems, the 29-year-old’s T20 World Cup washout against Scotland on Tuesday was only his 10th international appearance in over three years.

“I’ve seen a few comments, people saying he’s on the longest paid holiday I’ve ever seen,” Archer remarked.

“You can ignore 100 of them, but sometimes the 101st is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. You try not to let it get to you.

Not playing can sometimes make you feel like a burden.”
Speaking at the Winward Cricket Club in the southern part of Barbados, Archer was preparing his remarks for England’s World Cup preparations before of their match against Australia on Saturday.

Only 150 meters away from his home, he lives with his family, dogs, and two parrots named Jessie and James after popular Pokemon characters. This is where he spent a large portion of his rehabilitation from the elbow injury that sidelined him in March 2023.

During the Scotland washout, Archer made his debut for his native Barbados, bowling two overs for twelve runs before the prime minister of that nation invited him to a hospitality box. The audience gave him a standing ovation.
