KARACHI: Three people were detained, including Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Zafar Javed and his son, on suspicion of participating in a dacoity at a pan shop in Karachi.
Following a robbery at the pan shop in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area late on Wednesday night, three suspects, including a senior police officer and his son, were apprehended, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Arif Aslam told the media.
Shahzeb, the owner of the shop, filed a complaint, and the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station opened an investigation. Seen was also the police van that was used in the crime.
At least three males, two of whom had masks on over their faces, were seen entering a police van and storming a pan shop, according to CCTV footage of the incident.
They first threatened the store owner before breaking inside the store to take the merchandise and money.
DSP Zafar is the owner of the police van that was utilized in the robbery, according to SSP Aslam. He continued by saying that every suspect seen in the video was being identified.
Police say that during an initial investigation, the DSP’s son and his associates were discovered to have been involved in the crime. The cops continued by saying that they are working to apprehend other accomplices.
After robbers shot and killed at least 71 people in the first five months of 2024, the port city’s crime rate has skyrocketed.
