Standing in Erewash’s seat, Liam Booth-Isherwood declared he was withdrawing from the campaign and would instead be supporting the Tory contender.
He accused party leader Nigel Farage of not taking the behavior seriously, saying he had grown “increasingly disillusioned” with it.
It comes after the uproar surrounding a Reform canvasser who was shown in an undercover probe to have disparaged the prime minister racially.
Reform UK was forced to withdraw a number of election candidates because of their racist comments.
“I am today announcing my decision to leave the Reform Party and have suspended my campaign as the Reform candidate for Erewash with immediate effect,” Mr. Booth-Isherwood stated in a statement.
I have been more and more disappointed with Reform’s actions over the last few weeks.
Though I have spent the general election campaign in Erewash with many decent, honest, and hardworking people, the reports of widespread racism and sexism in Reform have made it clear that there is a serious moral issue within some parts of the party, and the party’s leadership’s failure to not only take this matter seriously but to address it fundamentally has made it clear to me that this is no longer a minor issue.
