ISLAMABAD: According to The News, Pakistan reported four instances of JN.1, a subvariant of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, on Sunday night.

The four affected individuals, who came to the nation from overseas, exhibited mild symptoms, according to the health officials, who confirmed the identification of a highly contagious variation. They were able to recover from their disease on their own.

According to a representative of the National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHS,R&C), the individuals afflicted with the disease tested positive for COVID-19, and upon doing genome sequencing, it was discovered that they carried a JN.1 sub-variant infection.

The World Health Organization has designated the Omicron’s JN.1 sub-variant as a Variant of Interest (VoI), and it is quickly displacing other Omicron sub-variants globally.

A few days ago, Pakistan’s health authorities mandated that 2% of all incoming passengers undergo COVID-19 testing. They also began sending samples for genome sequencing in order to identify the JN.1 sub-variant, which has been linked to death in neighboring India and other countries.

Concerning the discovery of the JN.1 subvariant, acting Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan stated that there was no cause for alarm because 90% of Pakistanis had received the COVID-19 vaccination. He also mentioned that border health services officials were attentive and proactive in accordance with global health protocols.

In order to protect themselves from the flu and other illnesses, people should practice social distancing, wear masks, wash their hands often with soap and sanitizer, and take preventive precautions.
