In addition to having his own show, The Bob Newhart Show, Newhart was well-known for his parts in the US sitcom The Big Bang Theory and the Christmas movie Elf.
Publicist Jerry Digney announced that Newhart, who was ninety-four, had passed away following “a series of short illnesses”.
In the late 1950s, Newhart began his professional stand-up comedy career.
In 1960, his routine was recorded on vinyl as The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, which went on to win the Grammy Award for album of the year. This led to his widespread renown in the United States.

Additionally, over the years, Newhart made several film appearances, most of them in humorous roles.
Among them were Catch 22, In and Out, Legally Blonde 2, and Elf, who played the small father of Will Ferrell, the adoptive full-size son.
