ISLAMABAD Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari declared on Sunday that his party was prepared for new elections “if Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chooses to dissolve the lower house of parliament,” further escalating political unrest in the midst of recent legal events.
The federal government’s remark comes after a noticeable uptick in its intense annoyance, as evidenced by its muted criticism of the Supreme Court’s decision to postpone rendering a comprehensive decision on reserved seats. Political commentators believe that this tendency may endanger the ruling coalition’s two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.
Speaking to a private news channel, Bukhari stated, “If there is a danger, the Prime Minister should advise dissolving parliament and holding new elections.”
His inquiry was directed at the leadership of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), asking them why they were not “sharing details with the PPP if it is facing any danger.”
The lawmaker stated that his party, which is the PML-N government’s main coalition partner in the center, is prepared to bolster the ruling party in parliament, but it must deliver.
