After receiving medical attention for an abdominal ailment during his quarterfinal matchup with Ugo Humbert of France, Draper withdrew from the contest.
The 22-year-old was playing in his first ATP match since advancing to the semifinals of the US Open earlier in September.
Draper, ranked twenty-one in the world, lost both of his singles matches but was still active in two of Great Britain’s three Davis Cup matches in Manchester.
His next performance is slated for October 21 at the Vienna Open.
In an earlier statement, Draper discussed the tennis schedule and called it “mental”.
Starting on October 2, the Masters event in Shanghai is the highest-ranked regular tournament below the Grand Slams.
