During a Tuesday night broadcast speech from Downing Street, the prime minister denounced an attack by Iran in which about 200 missiles were fired into Israel.
Later, British military “played their part” in “attempts to prevent further escalation” in the region, according to Defence Secretary John Healey, though he did not elaborate on the specifics of their involvement.
Upon hearing of the attack, Sir Keir, who was speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the rockets were directed at civilian sites and that it is “too soon to assess the impact fully”.
He declared, “I completely denounce this attempt by the Iranian regime to hurt defenseless Israelis, to intensify this exceedingly hazardous situation, and to bring the region ever closer to the brink.”
“Against this attack, we support Israel and acknowledge her right to self-defense.
Following the incident, which Iran said was in reprisal for the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon last week, Israel declared that “there will be repercussions”.
When asked if the United Kingdom would be willing to deploy its armed forces to support Israel in its defense against Iran, which provides support to the terrorist organization, the prime minister responded, “You will recognize that this is a dynamic situation.”
