In a setback to new CEO Kelly Ortberg’s effort to support the faltering aircraft manufacturer’s finances, Boeing (BA.N) opens new tab plant workers voted on Wednesday to reject a contract offer and continue a more than five-week strike.
Ortberg, who assumed the top post in August on a promise to collaborate more directly with factory workers than his predecessors, suffered a significant blow when the plan, which offered a 35% wage increase over four years, was rejected by a vote of 64%.
Boeing’s offer was rejected, adding to a financial crisis and reflecting years of bitterness from workers who felt deceived by the firm in negotiations ten years ago. This comes after 95% of workers voted against a first contract last month.
