Following the kidnapping of a Pakistani youth in Thailand, Pakistani diplomats stationed in Myanmar have cautioned job seekers in Southeast Asia about scams.
In their message, they disclosed that more than 200,000 people, including Pakistanis, were being held captive in smuggling camps located close to the borders of Myanmar and Laos.
They went on to say that these captives are forced to take part in internet frauds. They are enticed by internet ads that promise well-paying jobs, and they are given visas and airline tickets. They are later sent to these camps after reaching certain sites.
In order to prevent becoming victims of human trafficking and exploitation, diplomats advised job seekers to exercise caution and double-check any employment offers.
